The Strange Case of the Black-Eyed Kids
Welcome to the weekend. Time for another …
Strange Case Saturday!
I’ve been hearing many stories about people reporting to see people with entirely black eyes. In every story, the black-eyed people are kids. Who or what are these people who have no whites in their eyes, no iris, only black voids?
Is this perhaps people who are very possessed, meaning they have given in to their possession? It could be that some people are sensitive enough that this can be seen in the eyes, while most other people cannot see it.
Or these black-eyed people could be individuals who are not actually human at all. Are they humanoid extra-terrestrials?
Whatever the case, these stories are incredibly intriguing to me. Jason Offutt has been collecting these stories and posting then at his blog, From The Shadows. I don’t want to copy them in their entirety — so I’ll share a little of them and you can follow the link to read the whole thing.
If you have ever experienced anything like this, or know someone else who has, you can share your story with Jason through his blog. He’ll post your story and allow you to maintain anonymity.
Or, if you like, feel free to drop me a email and I’ll be happy to recount your story here at Dateline Zero.
Here are two of Jason’s recent stories of black-eyed people.
… Ten minutes later the intercom buzzed.
“I look over to the monitor and it’s these two kids,” he said.
Noetic hit the intercom button and asked them what they wanted. One of the boys looked into the camera and beaconed Noetic to come to the front door.
“I hit the talk button and tell them I am busy I don’t have time for games, they need to leave the property,” Noetic said. “Instead they just sort of hang on right in front of the door.”
Noetic tries to ignore the boys staring at him from the TV monitor, but he can’t. He goes to the lobby and looked at the boys through the front glass; the type of glass where people in the lobby can see out, but people outside can’t see in.
The boys were dressed like normal teens; shorts, dark hoodies, and tennis shoes.
“The one thing that set these kids apart from other kids, they had deep, completely black eyes,” he said. “This really set me back. I felt like as if they actually were able to see me.”
Noetic pushed open the lobby door, ready to tell the boys to leave or he would call the police. He never got the chance. …
The Terror of Black-Eyed People
As Susan stepped through the doorway of a grocery store in 2004, a man in his late 20s or early 30s dressed in an old-fashioned black suit stepped past her. She immediately knew something was wrong.
“This all happened in a second’s time,” Susan said. “As my head raised up my eyes made a direct contact with a man coming out of the store going the opposite way. There were no eyes, just deep black holes of space. A total void where sockets and eyes should be.”
The man was not blind. He walked confidently and directly.
“Oh man, did my radar go off,” Susan said. “My inner voice told me to get the hell away so I hurried my steps into the grocery store.”
Inside the store she looked to see if anyone else reacted to the black-eyed man, but everyone seemed normal.
“For many years now I have tried to put this behind me, only discussing this with my husband,” Susan said. “I didn’t want to give much credence to this being because this was the most profound evilness I have ever experienced. It was too terrifying for me to think about.”
If you keep reading that first story, he calls the police and they try and find where the kids went to. All the stories are chilling.
Stories about black-eyed people of all ages run rampant online, all of them share some common bonds. Others have noticeable differences from the other stories. What are the shared links in each tale? Do the many differences indicate that there is more than one ‘type’ of these creatures, if they even exist? Or are they just another urban legend?
If one were to read stories on just the black-eyed children, then the mythos remains mostly the same. Apparently, the BEKs cannot enter a domicile (or car) without permission, which brings to mind vampires. It’s said they appear as other children do in physical appearance, except for their eyes. The entire eye of one of these children is completely black. The sclera, more commonly known as ‘the white of the eye’, is not white, but pure black. They seem to be well-spoken, and possess a formality that the teller of the tale notes seems to be ‘odd’.
Black-eyed children must politely ask to be let inside, to use a phone, for a ride, to read (the reasons vary but all seem strange given the time of night these encounters take place) and when they are refused, it’s said that they seem to become insistent and almost mildly threatening in their wording and tone.
People report feeling a sense of dread, fear, and a feeling of being in danger when in the presence of these children. Most stories also state that when the child is speaking, it is almost as if their speech is laced with hypnotic suggestion; causing the person to want to let the child into their home.
Who or what the hell are these? (Good choice of wording, perhaps: “hell.”) Aliens, the result of demonic possession, while others chalk it up to kids playing pranks?
It is notable that the stories of black-eyed kids have only been circulating in recent years — and if I am wrong about that, please let me know. But in the past decade, designer contact lenses have become very available. You can order them easily through most Wal-Marts and eyeglass places.
But when people see someone wearing theatrical lenses in their eyes, it’s not usually an experience that brings fear and a sense of evil. Plus, what’s with the asking permission to enter a building that most of these stories entail?
It is also important to note that there are no stories of people who granted these black-eyed kids permission to enter.

You do know that kids now days can get colored contact lenses don’t you? I see some of them wearing cat eye contacts to look distinct They also wear ones to change the color of their eyes including black. These cases are obviously kids trying to freak people out…and its working!

September 14, 2010 at 5:47 pmHi, pateriot! You could be right about that

That’s true. I did find it interesting to note that the stories didn’t begin surfacing until sometime in the 90s; because designer contact lenses became readily available (and affordable) also in the 90s.
I remember Wal-Marts began offering the kinds of lenses you described in the mid-90s. So it could well be kids effing with people.
But stuff like this still gets me (from “Black-Eyed Kids in Ohio”) …
“He just smiles and tells me, ‘I need to use the phone, let us in,’” Noetic said.
Then the boys moved. They met behind the building and stepped into a blind spot in the security system, a spot from which there is no exit. They had disappeared from Noetic’s monitor.
“If you go in this blind spot, there is nowhere to go. You have to end up back on camera again,” Noetic said. “If they would have jumped the fence, I would have seen them on camera. I saw nothing.”
Noetic didn’t move from that spot until the police arrived. He sent the officers around to the blind spot, but the boys were gone.
Phenom
September 30, 2010 at 10:37 pmI read a bunch of these stories about a year or two ago and it seems to me this has become somewhat of an Internet phenomena.
Hard to say who started it but I think people are simply making up/adding to this story. The fact that the behavior of these kids are generally the same is an attempt to keep close to the original accounts and keep the fiction believable.
Another thing that’s noteworthy are how well the stories are written.
Normally when you read stories about other strange events, like UFOs or ghosts for example, grammar is all over the place (regular people retelling their experiences). Sometimes stories are written in all caps. Not so with these stories (at least when I was reading them a couple of years ago).
What I’m saying is that I think we have some bored geeks out there adding to the hoax. What’s funny is that I too had a strong urge to add my own version of a ‘black-eye’ story after reading a few.
